Without further ado, here are the details on the Tom Brokaw event in celebration of To Kill a Mockingbird and how you can get tickets.
As of this writing (Monday, June 28th 2:30 pm), tickets are still available. Please call or stop in to get your tickets. This will be much more safe and efficient than email.
Thank you!
Dear Readers,

***Please do not respond to this email as it may get lost. If you need information and must email, please compose a new message to countrybookshelf@gmail.com. A phone call to us at 406-587-0166 or a visit to the store is the best way to ensure that you receive prompt attention. ***

We are giving you — our email subscribers — the first notice of the ticketing details for the Tom Brokaw event celebrating the 50th anniversary of To Kill a Mockingbird.

We don’t know how long the supply of tickets will last, so we wanted to give you the first opportunity at them. An ad in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle on Sunday will alert the general public, and this information will be available on our website next week.

We’ve tried to be as detailed as possible in this message to avoid misunderstandings. Please read the entire email before calling or emailing with questions. Some aspects of the event are still to be determined, and everything is subject to change.

WHO: Tom Brokaw will be our special guest at an event to celebrate Harper Lee’s iconic novel, To Kill a Mockingbird.

WHAT: We expect that Mr. Brokaw will read from his portion of the book Scout, Atticus & Boo by Mary McDonagh Murphy, discuss To Kill a Mockingbird and its influence upon his life, take a limited number of questions on the topic, and then sign copies of Scout, Atticus & Boo.

WHERE: At the Country Bookshelf, 28 W. Main in downtown Bozeman, Montana.

We will situate Mr. Brokaw downstairs at a place that can be seen & heard from most of the rest of the store including the upstairs balcony. We will be moving shelves and bringing in chairs for the event, but — and this is important — we cannot guarantee a seat for everyone. Your ticket (to acquire, see below under “HOW”) gets you in the door, but we do expect the event to be standing room only. Seating will be first come, first choice.

WHEN: Friday, August 6th. Doors open at 6pm; event begins at 7pm.

FAIR WARNING: This is the first night of the Sweet Pea Festival, so we know some of you will have a difficult decision to make. And yes, we knew this would conflict with Sweet Pea when we first scheduled it, but as it was the only date he had available, we said, “How could we say no?!” We ask that if you acquire tickets and then choose not to attend, that you pass them along to someone who will.

WHY: To celebrate 50 years of To Kill a Mockingbird. This is a great opportunity to read this classic again or for the first time or to introduce it to a young person in your life and then hear how this book impacted so many, including prominent individuals like Mr. Brokaw.

HOW: This is what you’ve been waiting for, right? How can you attend this exciting event? Tickets will be required. You have two options:

1) Buy the book Scout, Atticus & Boo from us & receive one (1) ticket (WHILE TICKETS LAST. Once tickets are gone, we’ll still have books for sale, but, obviously, they won’t include tickets). This book is only available in hardcover or a large-print paperback. Books are $24.99 each. If you want the large-print edition, please carefully specify this when ordering.

The book signing at the end of the event will be limited to copies of Scout, Atticus & Boo purchased at the Country Bookshelf. Depending on Mr. Brokaw’s wishes and time constraints, we may have to limit the signing to one book per person and he may not be able to sign books for people who are not present. In order to sign books for all those present, he may also have to limit personalizations.

Copies of the book are in limited stock right now, but a pre-paid order for one will include the ticket that you can take with you NOW; then, you can pick up the book once our replenishments arrive.

More information on the book Scout, Atticus & Boo can be found HERE on our website.

2) You may purchase individual tickets for $10 each. All ticket purchases are final. Tickets will not be reserved without full payment.

To accommodate as many people as possible who are interested in this event, tickets are limited to two per person. Please think carefully before bringing small children to the event, as it is likely to be hot and crowded, and when children are unhappy, they have a tendency to make those around them unhappy as well. We’d like to make this the most pleasant event possible for all in attendance. We will not have room for strollers in the store that evening.

Tickets must be picked up in the store. We will not mail tickets.

Thank you for your patience and attention to these details. As of this writing, this is the best information that we have. We will be sure to pass along any additional information or changes as they become available. Please understand that we cannot make exceptions no matter how awesome you are.

All that being said, we’re excited for this event and look forward to hosting Tom Brokaw and you for such an important event.
