The 2008 reading selection for the state of Montana is Hattie Big Sky by Kirby Larson. We at the Country Bookshelf read this book early and recommend it highly. As a bonus, this book is both accessible and appropriate for adults and teens. It is available in paperback for $8.99.

For 2009, the local selection is The Soloist: A Lost Dream, an Unlikely Friendship, and the Redemptive Power of Music by Steve Lopez (book is in stock $15). This book is also the Montana State University 2009 Freshman Convocation read.
Bozeman’s fall 2008 community read was Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a Man Who Would Cure the World by Tracy Kidder (paper biography $15.95).
Unofficially, the 2007 local book was Greg Mortenson’s Three Cups of Tea (available in hardcover or paper on display in the front $25.95/$15). This book is now available in a young reader’s version and a picture book version for smaller children.
